Behavioral Health Internship Program
Perspectives Health Services’ behavioral health internship program offers numerous placement opportunities for master’s level students in the fields of social work, mental health counseling, psychology, and marriage and family counseling as well as pre-college and college students interested in behavioral health. We offer a well-rounded internship experience that strengthens students’ clinical and outreach skills so they can administer quality care in community mental health settings. The program is also designed to offer career mentorship, coaching, and pathways to assist students in meeting their professional goals. Throughout the program, students receive career coaching and mentorship to increase their awareness of professional opportunities and career pathways in community mental health, particularly at our agency.
APPLICANTS
Masters
These students will learn how to conduct assessments, provide individual therapy (both short- term and long-term), conduct family interviewing and family therapy, group therapy, intake evaluations, crisis intervention, care coordination, and consultation with community agencies.
- Currently enrolled in a graduate behavioral health program (MSW, MHC, etc.)
- Must be able to do a field placement that is a minimum of eight months and no less than 16 hours per week
- Liability insurance (through school or self)
- CORI/SORI and vaccinations required
- Comfortable using technology in care delivery (telehealth)
- Bilingual capacity (Haitian Creole/English or Spanish/English) is preferred
Pre-College & College
This group will learn about the field of behavioral health, with a basic understanding of mental wellness and mental illness. This three-month internship program prepares students to become peer behavioral health advocates. They will assist in activities to destigmatize mental illness and normalize the utilization of behavioral health care among youth. The program is led by behavioral health clinicians who will train students in mental health first aid, stress management, coping skills, suicide, and substance use prevention, and how to be good listeners and identify the signs of mental distress.
- Currently enrolled in a pre-college or college program
- Must be able to do a field placement for a minimum of three months
- CORI/SORI and vaccinations required
